State Planning Minister Richard Wynne has “called in” an application for a proposed $70-million resort near Apollo Bay.

State Planning Minister Richard Wynne has “called in” an application for a proposed $70-million resort near Apollo Bay.

Colac Otway Shire councillors voted five-to-two at their November meeting to ask Mr Wynne if he would take over the application process.

Mayor Joe McCracken said the council welcomed the minister’s decision to call in the Barham River Road resort development application.

“The decision is in line with the position council took in November 2017, which supported the call-in as it allows for the process to consider the full spectrum of local, regional and state implications,” he said.

“Under a call-in scenario, the minister establishes an independent expert panel of planners. Its purpose is to give all parties a fair and equal hearing regarding the proposal.
