Colac Basketball Association will host CBL grand finals for the first time next month as part of a massive month for the sport in Colac.
CBA president Peter Lemke said Colac had never hosted a Country Basketball League grand final, and the successful tender was an opportunity for the community to champion the calibre of Bluewater’s new facilities.
“We tendered for the grand final, and for the first time ever it will be held in Colac, the CBL grand final, regardless of who it is between, will be held here in Colac on February 10, both the men’s and the women’s,” he said.
“Regardless of who gets in the grand final we would expect that there’ll be big crowds, and it’s great for Colac basketball, great for Bluewater stadium and great for the town.
“Every association that’s rocked up has enjoyed playing there and they think it’s a great facility.”
Mr Lemke said Colac Otway Shire Council would reseal Bluewater’s courts between January 22 and 29, with the stadium reopening in time for the return of the domestic competition on January 29, and the senior men Kookas’ semi final on February 3.
“Our domestic competition is scheduled to come back on the 29th, and we’re right to start on that night, so there’ll be no impact to us there,” he said.
