Eleven-year-old emerging girls’ cricketer Sienna Mallon will join fellow Colac district product Sophie Walker at this year’s under-14 state championships.
The pair earned selection in the Barwon Rockettes’ squad for next month’s event.
Colac West cricketer Sophie will represent the region for the third time, while up-and-coming Warrion all-rounder Sienna is gearing up for her first state campaign.
Rockettes coach Renee Cox said officials were eager to introduce Sienna into the pathway program after the bowling all-rounder impressed during trials.
“We saw she was a good little batter and bowler so we picked her in the team,” Cox said.
“It’ll be good to get her in because the earlier the girls start the better they’re going to get as they get older.
“To get her in and develop her skills is going to be really exciting.”
The Barwon side will start the three-day Twenty20 competition on January 9.
Sophie, who has already featured in the CDCA senior ranks with Colac West, has enjoyed a promising start to her cricket journey after training with a Cricket Victoria Female Academy at the MCG during the winter.
