Irrewarra will unveil prized recruit and former Victorian batsman Liam Buchanan against his junior club City United in a midweek clash next week.
The champion export will make a return to Colac district cricket in a one-day match between the Knights and Redbacks, which officials have scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Colac’s Eastern Reserve.
Buchanan, 36, is a former Bushrangers representative and star of Victorian Premier Cricket with clubs Melbourne and Geelong.
He will play alongside his brother Micah in the Redbacks’ bid to qualify the pair for Irrewarra’s upcoming KFC Colac T20 Big Bash.
Redbacks skipper Dave Jackson said the chance to showcase Buchanan over two nights during the working week was exciting for Colac district cricket.
The idea of a Wednesday-Thursday night game, which will start at 5pm, was the brainchild of Redback and league official Nick Hay.
“We’re thrilled to have Liam onboard and hopefully we’ll get a bit of a crowd there,” Jackson said.
“If this one goes well we’ve got it in the pipeline to maybe play Colac in a midweek game at the Lake Oval next month if they’re keen.
