Merrett in AFL All Australian squad

Another dominant season at AFL level has thrust Cobden football export Zach Merrett into the mix for AFL All Australian honours for the first time.

Merrett continued his incredible rise in the AFL this season, averaging 17.6 kicks, 4.4 marks, 12.8 handballs, and leading the Bombers to finals.

The 21-year-old capped off the home-and-away season with four goals and 31 disposals in the Bombers’ win against Fremantle yesterday.

Merrett is among 26 players in the AFL’s initial 40-man squad, released today, vying for AA honours for the first time.
