Young Demon learns from senior experience

Otway Districts netballer Brooke Hawkins, 14, headlines an impressive line-up of junior netballers playing in interleague sides tomorrow. Hawkins said she would draw confidence from A Grade experience heading into her first interleague outing.

Talented Otway Districts netballer Brooke Hawkins will draw on senior netball experience as a source of confidence heading into her first interleague match.

Hawkins will suit up for the CDFNLA’s under-15 interleague outfit against Horsham district league tomorrow, and said she was surprised but “really keen” when she found out she had made the eight-player squad.

The up-and-coming star defender has had a strong start to the 2017 season, coming off an impressive 2016 when she fell short of the under-15 league best and fairest by one vote.

Hawkins made her A Grade debut against Irrewarra-Beeac in round four, with an impressive performance from the 14-year-old sparking a two-goal win for the Demons.

She said the experience of playing on experienced senior netballers such as Narelle Frith would give her confidence heading into the clash, and she looked forward to playing with girls from other Colac district clubs.

“I’ve had experience playing with girls from other teams in Barwon Zone netball that we’re playing at the moment,” she said.
