  1. The mayor may be surprised the funds were not given, but I doubt anyone else in the community is. Take a look at how little this large amount of money was to achieve. Then add the recent track record of council managed projects. Bluewater, Pirron Rec Reserve, Harrington Park at Wye River, etc. etc.

  2. Don’t get me wrong, I love Colac… but the truth is that we are just a ‘halfway point’ to most people. We are in a great position geographically for travel but we lack any real WOW factor to entice people to come here. So why would the Fed Gov want to spend money on entrance ways here? Its not going to give them anything in return.
If past local Gov had done more with our lake, we could of had a wow factor attracting people from all over as it did in the past. There’s plenty more that could or should of or should been done, but meh… No point in going on when you basically have the same people in charge of things which ever way you look.and they only want to do things that benefit them or their inner circles. ☹

  3. “We’re struggling to understand why a shovel-ready project that has the potential to transform Colac’s shopping precinct cannot attract the Commonwealth’s interest.”

From the National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF) Website:

“The Department is offering feedback to all applicants. Register your interest by emailing nsrf@infrastructure.gov.au.” (http://investment.infrastructure.gov.au/funding/NSRF/)

As a ratepayer I would like to know where the ambiguity lies, has council received no feedback on their application as yet?

The rates paid in Colac are comparable to those paid by Geelong ratepayers and we receive significantly less in terms of level of municipal service for our money. I find the councils failure to complete one of it’s primary functions (of obtaining state and federal funding) despite it’s level of expenditure to be extremely poor. I call on the council to provide a detailed plan of how the $475,000 of ratepayers money will be used effectively to achieve their set outcomes despite the deficit.

What, a story about the Federal Government and Colac no photo of Sarah Henderson? I thought she would be out there demanding a better deal for Colac!
She is always photographed when there is so-called good news.
