  1. The project was always going to be way too complex to manage! Why didn’t the dam thing get split into two stages – basketball / pool. I appreciate the opportunity for economies of scale/ savings, but surely the costs have blown out again given its now 7 months over due ? I’m going to have to register for learn to swim classes by the time this project is done ! As for the Shires explanation, or lack thereof…….as helpful as a chocolate fireman !

  2. Well of coarse people spoken to said they weren’t worried about completion time… They were just being polite! What they were thinking would of been different.
I honestly think that the inspection of the site wasn’t done to the full extent it should of been and it has just led onto new problems one after the other, but they don’t want to admit to that as it mean their MATES didn’t do their inspection properly and don’t want them being tossed in the deep end… The old ‘Scratch my back’ system. I know it sounds a bit conspiracy theory, but look into it for yourself.
Meanwhile, the towns folk just have to sit back and deal with it. I know of people suffering because of the delays and thy aren’t happy at all.

  3. Reality Check

But Ms Wilkinson said the redevelopment was “progressing remarkably well” …… Well I would hate to see Ms Wilkinson describe a project that finished on time and on budget! I wonder if you could delay paying your rates for months and months on end, and then declare you were happy not to reveal when you were going to pay them? I wonder how the Colac Otway Shire Rate collectors would go if ratepayers “refused to speculate” on when they might like to pay their rates. Of course the Colac community will enjoy having this project finished, that is not the point. The council has an obligation to take seriously this huge expenditure, and to show some concern and conviction for prudent management.

  4. Reality is that the people of Colac have given up on the whole thing and have found alternatives. The council’s attitude is pathetic and their apathy is contagious.
The whole thing is a running joke. We don’t expect to see it reopen in time for summer. We don’t expect to see it reopen by next winter. They could have pulled the damn thing down and rebuilt it faster.
