Tigers proud despite defeat

Colac’s 15-and-under Division One netball team fell short in Saturday’s grand final against South Barwon. The players, pictured from left after the clash, are Annabelle Arnold, Kiana McVilly, Layla Holt, Zara Walters, Dana Lucas, Kassidy Stephens, Ruby Stephens, Annalie Lawrence and Ruby Kerr.

Colac Tigers suffered a disappointing 15-and-under grand final loss but officials are still proud with the young netballers’ season.

The Tigers struggled to maintain their strong finals form going down to South Barwon, 21 to 34, in the Division One clash at Kardinia Park on Saturday.

The Swans started the game strongly finishing the first quarter with a six-goal lead, nine to three, and despite outscoring the opposition in the second quarter the Tigers were unable to catch South Barwon.

Co-coach Jessie Lang, who coaches the young Tigers with her sister Kelsey, said her players struggled to match the in-form Swans.

“We just couldn’t really get the ball down the court, they played really, really good defence and we just struggled,” Lang said.

“We got turnovers, we were shooting, we just couldn’t capitalise with the turnovers we got,” she said.
