Saint Stephenson named best in finals

Birregurra officials have named forward Tom Stephenson as the best player in the Saints’ premiership-winning finals series.

Birregurra officials named Tom Stephenson, pictured left with Christian Kelly, as the best player in the club’s premiership-winning finals series.

The Saints held their senior vote count yesterday following Saturday’s grand final win against Lorne, with the 22-year-old taking out the award for best performer on the big stage.

Stephenson was best-on-ground in the Saints’ preliminary final win against South Colac, and second best in the grand final, kicking two goals in each.

Best-on-ground medallist Josh Weatherhead earned the club’s maximum five votes on Saturday, ahead of Stephenson, Sam Green, Michael Bolitho and Ben Boseley.

Birregurra also crowned joint best-and-fairest winners Mick Davis and Andrew Kelly yesterday for their impressive seasons in the midfield.

Weatherhead finished third in the count.
