Committee cancels car and bike show

Colac Custom Car and Bike Show will not go ahead next year, with organisers blaming “ever-increasing red tape” for their decision.

A car and bike show committee spokesman said an “impasse with the Colac Otway Shire Council” was behind yesterday’s announcement and the committee could “see no way to continue with the planning” for the 2018 event.

Colac Otway Shire mayor Chris Potter said the council was “disappointed to receive news that the Colac Custom Car and Bike Show organisers have chosen to cancel their event, despite council’s efforts to support them”.

But a car show committee spokesman said the red tape involved in securing a permit for the event had been a “massive mountain to climb for many years”.

“As such and with much regret the committee of the Custom Car and Bike Show has decided that they will not be staging an event in Colac in 2018,” the spokesman said.

Colac Otway Shire shame on your guys. This is a major event and you just gotta spoil it for everyone including local businesses and fun for the families. Why do you make everything so hard?

I live in Qld and I have heard about how good this show is. Pitty the council greed has cost them a major event. Lots of tourist dollars will be lost.
