Camperdown man escapes from prison

Police are searching for a Camperdown man who was among  three men who escaped from Beechworth Correctional Facility in north-east Victoria this week.

Geoffrey Pennell, 34, of Camperdown escaped from the minimum-security facility overnight alongside Billy Sperling, 25, and Thomas Smith, 27.

Pennell was serving time for burglary, theft, drug, traffic and damage-related offences.

He is Caucasian with blue-grey eyes, a thin build and about 178cm tall.

Camperdown police said they were aware of his escape and were looking into his connections with the area.

Meanwhile, Sperling was serving time for property, traffic, assault and drug-related offences. He is Caucasian with brown eyes, a medium build and is 178cm tall.

Smith was serving time for traffic, property, drug and damage-related offences. He is Caucasian with green eyes, a medium build and about 187cm tall.

Investigators have released images of the men and urge anyone who sights them not to approach them but to instead contact 000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
