Rolling for Australia

Colac lawn bowler Ken Hanson, fresh off winning his first state singles championship, will represent Australia for the first time as part of Australia’s Commonwealth Games para-athlete squad.

Colac lawn bowler Ken Hanson will represent Australia for the first time at two upcoming international events.

The City Bowls Club bowler, who was born without a left arm, is part of Australia’s seven-man para-athlete squad that selectors will reduce to three for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

As part of the squad, Hanson will don the green and gold in a Trans Tasman Test Match against New Zealand from May 29, before taking part in a multi-nations championship against Canada, Hong Kong, Wales, Scotland, Malaysia and New Zealand from June 4.

Both events are at Broadbeach in Queensland.

National selectors will use the events to pick the final teams for next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

“It will be quite an honour to represent Australia for the first time,” Hanson said.

“I never ever dreamt I’d be in that position, so to get there is great,” he said.
