Log truck rolls over on notorious corner

The Colac-Lavers Hill Road closed yesterday after a log truck rolled over on a corner at Ferguson, sending logs down an embankment.

A log truck rollover on the Colac-Lavers Hill Road closed the road for almost four hours yesterday, sparking calls for safety improvements.

Detective Dave Renney of Colac Criminal Investigation Unit said the double log truck rolled onto its passenger side yesterday at 9.05am about four kilometres north of Ferguson when it was going around a “hair-pin corner”.

VicRoads closed about 15 kilometres of road between Gellibrand and Ferguson from 10.30am until about 2pm.

Det Renney said that the truck lost its load, spilling logs across the road and down a steep hill.

“The driver was taken to Colac Hospital with minor injuries and the road’s expected to be closed for a couple of hours while we pull the logs up and re-tip the truck over,” he said.

Det Renney said investigations were continuing, but he believed speed was the only factor in the incident.

Helena Lakatos lives close to where the truck rolled and said there was at least one incident at the problem corner every week.

Ms Lakatos said she and her husband had lived at the property since 2009 and she had been talking with VicRoads for four years about improving the road’s safety.

  1. Juggy

Consider the amount of traffic that uses that road and how many accidents happen there.

Safety on that corner is only an issue when idiots are involved. ??
