Recruits and juniors boost South Colac

Jamie Armstrong has returned to South Colac following a year with Geelong district league club Inverleigh.

South Colac coach Tim Foley says he expects the Roos to still be a genuine contender this season following the announcement of four new and returned players.

Former Colac Tigers senior footballer Harry Sinclair has committed to the club, while utility Jamie Armstrong has returned from a one-year stint at Inverleigh, and small forward Marcus Roberts has returned from Nirranda.

Foley said Tom McKean was also set to return from a shoulder injury, which restricted him to nine games last year.

Sinclair, a former Colac Tigers junior premiership captain, played eight senior games for the Tigers in 2010.

Foley said his club’s recruits, along with its emerging young players, would keep the team a contender this year.

“If you go through our top 22 we’ll be a reasonable side if everyone’s fit,” he said.

“We’ll be looking to blood a few of our young under-21 players, guys like Mitch Perkins and Zach Jamieson will get more opportunities, and even kids of the 17s like Billy McLeod, Harry Smith, Cody Downard and Jack Foley will get a chance.

“I’m excited by the year a little, because a young player can improve a lot from round one to round 18, so I’m looking forward to giving these kids more opportunities.”
