Three former Colac district footballers will team up at Geelong district club Thomson this season.
Star Lorne forward Jared Matheson, Colac Imperials key-position player Josh Trezise, and former Forrest gun Brendan Wall have all committed to the Tigers for their 2017 campaign.
Thomson coach Reece Holwell said he was rapt to confirm the signings this week.
He also announced former Jack Mahoney Medallist Sean O’Neill had re-committed with the club, while former Forrest premiership ruckman Michael Gregorio has returned to the field following a knee injury which sidelined him in 2016, when Thomson finished the season in fourth place.
“We think we’re in a pretty good spot at the moment, we’re looking to take that extra step,” Holwell said.
“These new boys have all been great, and they’ve all bought into what we’re trying to achieve,” he said.
Matheson spent two years playing alongside Gregorio at Forrest in 2011 and ’12, when the Lions won the Colac district senior football premiership.
Matheson played just 11 games between 2013 and ’15 before returning to Lorne last year, booting 33 goals from 18 games.
“He’s good mates with Michael Gregorio so that was his connection to the club, I think he’s living in Jan Juc and working closer to Geelong,” Holwell said.
