Team effort sinks Seahawks

Colac basketballer Lewie Varley scored 35 points against Warrnambool in his return, including 18 points in the fourth quarter.

All 12 Colac Kookas hit the scoresheet for the first time in recent memory in the men’s team’s win against Warrnambool.

The Kookas blitzed the Seahawks 93-71 in front of a home crowd at Camperdown to notch up their fourth win of the season.

Guard Lewie Varley starred in his return from suspension with 35 points, including 18 in the final term.

But it was Sam Barrow, 12 points, who helped set up the early lead.

“Sammy Barrow had a fantastic game, he shot really well to help set up the margin, but more importantly it was his leadership,” Colac coach Keith Harrison said.

“He’s the guy in the fourth quarter taking a charge or diving on a loose ball, he not only leads with his voice but also with his actions and leads by example,” he said.

“But it was the structure and team coming together that helped set up about a 14-point lead for us – the ball movement was the best it’s been all season.”

The Seahawks fought back in the third term, cutting Colac’s margin from 20-plus points to 13.
