NEW CHAPTER: Birregurra mentor and 2016 CDFL Netball Association Coach of the Year Jenny Keast has stepped down from leading the Saints.

Birregurra netball coach Jenny Keast will step down after leading the team to the top of the competition.

Keast took over as A Grade coach two years ago and helped lift the club from 10th spot on the ladder in 2014
to second place this year.

The veteran Colac district netball coach led the Saints for two seasons in 2011 and 2012 but stepped down in 2013 and 2014.

Keast returned to the top coaching role in 2015 in an effort to push the Saints back into finals.

The Saints only narrowly missed out on a finals berth last year falling one game short and finishing in sixth spot.

But they finished this year’s home-and-away season in second position and with a 13-3 win-loss record.

She said she had decided to step down again next season so she and her husband Terry could travel more.

“I’ve decided that it’s perhaps time for someone else to coach, my husband and I might plan to get away at some stage throughout the season,” Keast said.

“I don’t believe in taking the job on unless I can give 100 per cent and perhaps next year I won’t be able to do that,” she said.

Colac district netball officials named Keast as Coach of the Year this year and she also received the honour in 2011 after guiding the Saints to finals from ninth.

Keast has previously coached the Colac Tigers and Western Region open and junior sides in the past and said coaching had become her passion since she stopped playing.
