COLAC DISTRICT wildlife carers have welcomed a government commitment to review culling permit procedures to ensure they are consulted before neighbours receive licences to kill native wildlife.
Minister refuses exclusion zone
Carlisle River Wildlife Shelter volunteer carer Carola Anstis, pictured with orphaned eastern kangaroo Simon which she has given to the government to find a home, is disappointed the government has refused to consider culling permit exclusion zones near shelters.

It’s obvious that native animals are not welcome in Victoria, and that neigbhours’ interests can be at conflict in communities because of government support for farmers! If there is over-grazing in the neighbour’s property, it’s likely to be from feral animals, and over-stocking of animals. The grazing impact of kangaroos is very small, in comparison. Kangaroos are still “pests” in Victoria, even those carefully and lovingly raised by carers.
