Great to see the heart of the Otways getting resources to increase the community’s resilience to fire but please, somebody in Melbourne think about what a horrendous mouthful DEWLP is to enunciate !
I know old fireys who struggled for years with the changeover from DNRE to DSE. DEPI was in fact much better, having gained a comfortable currency quite quickly, much like Forestry once rolled easily into a conversation. I know some will think my point flippant but when multiple government agencies communicate verbally in and on firegrounds clarity & brevity is everything. As a fire radio operator I can assure any powerful mandarins who might read this that DEWLP just does not flow and lacks any definitive sibilance.
Remembering my old fire captain’s eventual adoption of DSan’RE for most of the last decade and the unfortunate ‘sparks&embers’ euphemism popular with the general public, one wonders what will become of DEWLP before it firms up in the local argot ?
