COLAC police have again urged people to secure their properties after another theft from a trailer.
Police are investigating the theft of an estimated $3500 worth of tools from a tradesman’s trailer outside a Pound Road property early yesterday morning.
Detective Stuart Sims of Colac Criminal Investigation Unit said the trailer was attached to a vehicle and locked when the theft happened.
But Det Sims said an “unknown offender” forced a trailer door open and stole the tools about 4am yesterday.
He said the owners awoke to noise at the front of their property but missed the thief by less than a minute.
“Someone has heard a noise and seen a male in dark clothing disappear and then they heard a car drive off heading east,” he said.
“They missed catching him by about 30 seconds.”
The theft was the second from a tradesman’s trailer this week.
Thieves stole a trailer full of tools from outside a Scott Street property on Sunday night.
Det Sims said people should take every possible precaution to ensure they didn’t become a victim of theft.
“Even if you’ve locked your vehicle or trailer, park it in a shed or up a driveway if possible,” he said.
“People just need to be vigilant.”
