POLICE believe a Melbourne man arrested in Colac for allegedly exploiting children online was working in the region.
Colac detectives arrested the 53-year-old Hampton man after Melbourne taskforce detectives raided a residential address in the Hampton area and seized computers and hard drives.
The arrest was part of the recently formed Taskforce Astraea which aims to address an increase in online child exploitation, with a focus on people who meet and groom children through the internet for sexual purposes.
Taskforce Astraea detectives executed a search warrant on the man’s home about 7.30am Wednesday and detectives arrested him about 11am in Colac.
Investigators released the man pending further inquiries.
