Fire causes $60,000 damage

FIREFIGHTERS prevented a fire from destroying an Elliminyt shed despite the blaze causing more than $60,000 damage.

Colac Fire Brigade spokesman Mark Gunning said four fire crews, three from Colac and one from Larpent, attended the blaze in a shed on Main Street, Elliminyt, next to Joiner Park.

Mr Gunning said one bay of the three-bay shed was “well-alight” when authorities arrived, with flames reaching through the roof.

He said the fire, which broke out about 3.50am Wednesday, caused between $60,000 and $80,000 damage to the shed, including two ride-on mowers.

“An electrical fault was believed to have started the fire,” Mr Gunning said.

“We brought it under control pretty quickly, within a few minutes,” he said.

“It was a good save – the guys worked well and the structure will survive. It should be repairable.”
