Demons netballer out for season

Otway Districts netballer Kellie Edwards might miss the rest of the season after reinjuring her left knee.

OTWAY Districts netballer Kellie Edwards says she expects to miss the rest of the season after reinjuring a knee.

Edwards missed four weeks of the CDFLNA season earlier this year after dislocating her left knee against Apollo Bay.

The former Demons A Grade co-coach reinjured the knee against Lorne on Saturday and was waiting on a final diagnosis from an orthopaedic surgeon.

“The doctor in Geelong X-rayed it and they think there is ligament damage and damage to the meniscus,” Edwards said.

“Last time it felt like it was on the outside of my knee but this time it feels more on the inside as well as the outside.

“I’m waiting on a phone call from the orthopaedic surgeon; it looks like I’m out for the year.”

Edwards made a successful return to the court in the Demons’ win against Forrest a fortnight ago but went down in the third quarter against Lorne on Saturday.

The Demons had enjoyed a successful month of netball with two wins and two close losses after a tough start.

Edwards said she was disappointed she might miss the rest of the season.

“I’m disappointed I can’t play for the rest of the year but at the same time I’ve seen our team come together and play really well,” she said.

“It will be good to see the team finish off the season on a better note than we have been, and to finish on a better note with me cheering from the sidelines.

“I am disappointed but at the same time I’m seeing improvement in my team.”

Edwards said she planned to be an active Otway Districts supporter despite the injury.

“I’ll still be with them and go to every training and watch them every week so I don’t feel out of it completely,” she said.
