Cooking apprentice makes the final cut

COLAC cooking apprentice Jessica Perkins has a one-in-four chance of becoming Victoria’s top school-based apprentice.

Victorian Training Awards judges have named Jessica, 17, in their final four for the school-based apprentice of the year award, which has a $10,000 fellowship prize.

Trinity College’s Jessica Perkins is dishing up awards success for her cooking apprenticeship.

Jessica works at Colac’s Fusion Restaurant and studies her apprenticeship through Western District Employment Access.

She is also a Year 12 student at Trinity College.

Fusion owner Duncan Green said he was proud of his apprentice’s achievements.

“I can definitely believe she got to run the race for this,” Mr Green said.

“Now she’s in the top four, she’s won that category to get to this stage now,” he said.

“Either way, whatever happens, she’s an absolute winner.”

Mr Green said Jessica would have an interview with judges later this month, before an awards presentation dinner in Melbourne on August 24.
