Log hits truck driver in head

A COLAC truck company driver escaped serious injury after a log his truck was carrying struck him in the head.

The Clearwater Transport truck lost logs from its load on La Trobe Terrace at Geelong when the driver braked suddenly.

Geelong Highway Patrol Senior Constable Darren Kiddle said the logs on the truck moved forward.

“The truck was travelling north on La Trobe Street in Geelong and tried to pull up at the lights at the intersection of Ryrie Street,” Sen Const Kiddle said.

“At that stage his load has all shifted forward, the front part of the load has crushed the back of the cab,” he said.

“Some of the load struck him in the back of the head.”

Sen Const Kiddle said the driver was lucky to escape serious injury.

“Very lucky that it didn’t hit him right in the back of the head and didn’t kill him,” he said.

Sen Const Kiddle said another log came off the truck and “shot through the intersection”.

“Could have been a lot worse,” he said.

“One could have hit a car quite easily.”

Sen Const Kiddle said police called WorkSafe after the incident.
