Green light for new courts

THE State Government has plugged a funding shortfall which threatened to delay a Beeac Tennis Club upgrade.

The government has announced it will inject $29,700 towards the new courts, which means the project is fully funded.

Club officials hope to complete $127,000 redevelopment ahead of the 2012-13 Polwarth District Tennis Association season, which starts in October.

The latest funding comes on top of $55,000 the State Government promised ahead of the 2010 election.

Beeac Tennis Club has contributed $35,000 and Colac Otway Shire Council has chipped in $7000.

The project will replace two existing concrete courts, which date back to the 1920s, with three asphalt courts.

Beeac Tennis Club president Lyn Watts said the redevelopment would mean the club could have all its juniors play at Beeac, and top senior players would want to join the A Grade ranks.
