POLICE are looking for a red-haired woman in relation to a burglary at Apollo Bay.
Senior Constable Andrew Orchard of Apollo Bay said police were investigating a burglary at a Montrose Avenue house when they found a red hair on the kitchen bench.
Sen Const Orchard said a witness had earlier reported a red-haired woman acting suspiciously near a house in the neighbouring McLaughlan Street before she jumped a fence and ran away.
He said a thief stole cash as well as a bottle of alcohol from the Montrose Avenue house and also left the television on.
“During the inspection we found a red hair on the kitchen bench and that’s where the entry point was,” he said.
“So we’re thinking it’s the same person.”
Sen Const Orchard said the witness first saw the woman about 4pm Wednesday and the burglary happened between 5pm and 8.30pm that day.
He said the witness described the woman as having red hair, a thin build, aged between 30 and 40 and was wearing jeans, sneakers and a grey top.
Sen Const Orchard said a crime scene and forensics team from Warrnambool had inspected the house.
He said police had received no reported sightings of the woman since the burglary.
Sen Const Orchard said it was possible there could have been more burglaries.
“No one else has rang up to say someone had been in there house but a lot of people have holiday houses so there may be another that has been entered,” Sen Const Orchard said.
“So we are asking people to be vigilant in terms of going and seeing if everything is all right and to call us if it’s not,” he said.
