Man attacked with a shovel

POLICE are investigating an alleged shovel attack at Winchelsea.

Detective Sergeant Craig Blunt of Torquay Criminal Investigation Unit said police attended a dispute at a Winchelsea home between a former Corio man and a Winchelsea man.

Det Sgt Blunt said the former Corio man, aged in his early 30s, received head and face injuries during the altercation, which allegedly involved a shovel, and paramedics took him to Geelong Hospital.

He said the victim had allegedly produced a knife during the dispute but the circumstances were unclear.

“The investigations are ongoing regarding the injuries received by the male, and anyone with information can contact me,” Det Sgt Blunt said.

“We really need an independent party that might have seen or know anything,” he said.

“Inquiries are still ongoing regarding the circumstances surrounding the assault.”

Det Sgt Blunt said paramedics originally received a call saying the man had an asthma attack about 4am Sunday.

But he said the victim received 15 stitches in his mouth and other injuries from the alleged assault.
