Youngsters star in tennis carnival

Colac Lawn Tennis Club junior Sophie Arnold was one of the winners in a representative tournament.

COLAC district junior tennis players have starred against the region’s best at a representative tennis carnival in Colac.

Colac Lawn Tennis Club welcomed about 150 competitors to its Church Street lawn courts, including players from Warrnambool, Camperdown and Hamilton.

Even young guns from the neighbouring Polwarth District Tennis Association played.

“It was a sensational day, we had good entries and there was some good quality tennis being played,” club member Terry Lingard said.

“We had players coming from as far as Hamilton and they were all really well behaved and played in good spirits as they always do,” he said of the event on Sunday.

The young players competed for points which go towards their Victorian Country Tennis Association rankings.

Under-18s Beth O’Brien, Luke Garner and under-14 doubles pair Sophie Arnold and Ruby O’Dowd capped off stellar weekends after advancing to the Colac Lawn Tennis Club’s junior singles championship finals the day before.
