FIRE authorities have declared Saturday a day of total fire ban in south-west Victoria.

The ban, which includes Colac, also takes in the Wimmera and central fire districts.

It is illegal to light fires in the open air from 12:01am to 11:59pm on Saturday.

The Country Fire Authority says south-west Victoria will have a “severe” fire danger rating.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the temperature to reach 38 degrees in Colac tomorrow, with windy conditions.

The temperature could reach 35 degrees on Sunday.
