Secret Flyer last in Black Caviar’s 19th win

CONNECTIONS’ hopes for Secret Flyer to be “the best of the rest” failed when the Colac district-trained sprinter ran last in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington.

Super mare Black Caviar continued her unblemished run when she raced away to win her 19th consecutive race, the $750,000 Group One feature.

Hay List, widely considered the second-best sprinter in Australia, challenged for most of the 1000-metre race on Saturday, but finished second as the expected quinella got up.

But among connections of the seven horses which made up the rest of the field there was interest in third spot, which went the way of $51 chance Buffering.

Secret Flyer finished ninth, 8.8 lengths behind Black Caviar and five lengths off Buffering in his first start in 29 weeks having battled injury.
