DIVISION One promotion has proven a burden and a blessing for Colac Two bowlers.
The challenge of playing against the best Saturday Pennant skippers has proven difficult but also rewarding for a Colac Two team which has pushed top sides this season.
Colac Two skipper John Whitson said Division One competition was difficult for a two-team top-grade club.
“It gets back to coming out of Division Two, we are the second 16 of the club and there is the first 16 at the club,” he said.
“We are very competitive up to half time, there’s generally been five to six shots in it, but after that we’re playing the best skippers in the district and that shows out.
“I’ve been a skipper this year and I know I have a lot to learn as far as that goes.”
Colac Two takes on Winchelsea tomorrow on Colac’s lakeside greens and hopes to break through for its first Division One victory.
Whitson said the players had remained positive despite Colac Two’s winless record.
“We’ve realised how big a step it is going from two to one – I can’t stress that enough, it’s a big step,” he said.
“If the boys can believe in themselves for 25 ends and not just 13, then we can have a fairly good crack at them.
“We are competitive, it’s just about getting that extra 10 or 12 ends at the end of the game – that’s where bowls is won.”
