IRREWILLIPE dairy farmers Alan and Janine Carson are celebrating after their jersey calf fetched $10,000 at an annual sale.
Mr and Mrs Carson attended the International Dairy Week sale at Tatura near Shepparton.
Mr Carson said the sale price for his five-month-old heifer Cairnbrae Valerian Estelle was the second highest of the week.
“It’s the best result we’ve had there so we were pretty pleased,” Mr Carson said.
“We knew the calf would sell fairly high because it comes from a highly sought-after family from the bull Elton,” he said.
“Paul and Lisa Mumford from Won Wron bought the calf and it’ll be heading into a breeding program for A.I.”
Mr Carson said Colac district farmers were among a hoard of buyers at the International Dairy Week sale.
“We might have been the only ones selling but there were a fair few who went up from around here to buy,” he said.
The sale also set a record with an average sale price of $5032, beating a 29-year record of $4951.
