DEAKIN University has proved to be Colac and district’s most popular university.
Universities and TAFE colleges have offered study places to 298 district students in the first round of offers for 2012, and nearly a third of those offers came from Deakin.
Deakin, which has campuses across the state including Warrnambool and Geelong, has made study offers to 119 Colac and district people.
The university is also the most popular statewide, making more than 10,000 offers to potential students.
The University of Ballarat was the second most popular choice for Colac and district, making 30 offers, with the University of Melbourne making 26 offers.
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre released the first round of university placements on Monday afternoon, and the Colac Herald has the offers for Colac and district people on pages 20 and 21 of today’s edition.
Colac’s 298 offers is below the 327 first-round study offers for the region last year.
The most popular course for Colac and district people is Deakin’s nursing course at Geelong, with 17 Colac and district people receiving a place in the course.
Ten people from the district have offers for Deakin’s primary teaching course at Geelong.
The University of Melbourne will take 10 district people to study arts, and eight for science.
Nursing has been a popular profession choice, with 37 offers to study various nursing courses.
Education courses made 26 study offers for the region, with 40 for arts courses and 15 for engineering.
VTAC will release the second round of university offers on February 3.
