2012 CDFL fixture released

Colac and District Football League followers must wait until round six for a grand final re-match between reigning premier Birregurra, pictured, and South Colac.

COLAC District Football League will continue its rolling draw despite calls for change.

Officials made a motion to change the draw at the league’s annual meeting so that Lorne did not follow Forrest on the fixture.

Concerns arose at the beginning of season 2011 when Dolphins officials indicated they could not field an under-17 side, while Forrest also looked like it could struggle to field a team in the top-age junior competition.

League chairman Peter Lucas said some clubs were concerned if both clubs failed to field an under-17 side it would leave clubs with two byes in a row.

“Some will even have three because they’ll have their own bye prior to or straight after playing Forrest and Lorne,” he said.

“But that was one of the motions that got defeated, clubs voted six votes for and five against and it needs to be two-thirds majority.”

The league has since altered the junior age limit from under-17 to under-17.5 to boost dwindling junior player numbers.

Season 2012 kicks off April 14.
