NORTH BALLARAT football officials say Colac district’sDean Towers has what it takes to earn a consistent spot on their senior list.

The 21-year-old wingman worked his way up the ranks in his first season to earn a senior berth in the Roosters’ two VFL finals clashes.

Former Colac Tiger Dean Towers.

Towers has commenced pre-season training three nights a week in his second year at the club, and football manager Marg Richards said he had shown plenty of potential.

“We would hope Dean would play some more senior footy, he played both finals last season and did okay,” she said.

“We’d expect he would step up and play more in his second year, but it’s a bit hard to say at this point.

“He’s very athletic, I suppose he just needs to keep working hard on his skill level.”

Towers booted 11 goals in 17 VFL reserves games last season and featured in the best players four times.

He will rejoin 38 former Roosters that helped the club to a semi-final finish in 2011, while coaches have invited a further 22 players to test their ability at a higher level.

The group will train Mondays and Fridays at Ballarat’s Eureka Stadium while Wednesday night trainings are reserved for general fitness training and conditioning.

“They’ve done a 3.2-kilometre time trial at Victoria Park and this week they’ll do a six-kilometre time trial around the lake,” Mrs Richards said.

“We’ve been quite pleased with our retention rate, most of the players from last season are set to play again,” she said.

Selectors will access the training list before Christmas.

They will finalise the list after intra-club matches in February and early March.
