A COLAC district riding team has earned regional success in a coastal endurance race.
Forrest Mountain Bike and Cycling Club members Sandy Maxwell, Liz Mulconry, Tony and Bec Luppino made a successful combination during the Southern Exposure Mountain Bike Festival.
Formerly the Surf Coast Six-Hour, the event has since expanded and allowed the Forrest four-person team to win the 12-hour mixed event comfortably.
“We put in a reasonable amount of training for this event that’s for certain, it was the first time any of us had competed in the 12-hour,” Maxwell said.
“So we were pretty pleased to come away a lap up on the second team,” he said.
The team was the best finisher of a host of Forrest competitors at the event, which is set around Eumerella scout camp near Torquay.
“They always put in a lot of effort into the course, I think that’s why so many people enjoy it,” Maxwell said.
“At one point of the course it comes out where you get a great view over the cliff tops over Anglesea and the ocean,” he said.
“It is a great course, even though it was overcast it was a pretty good day for racing.”
The event spanned all day Saturday, ending at about 10pm.
